How It All Started - One Year At Light And Day Studio

Sometimes things just fall into place. One year ago we found the space which was to become Light And Day Studio. We had it in the back of our minds to find a studio, a space to get creative, meet clients and form a unique vision for our photography business. Right when Chris moved to Cologne from his hometown close to Munich, we got quite lucky with finding a studio space that could do all that - and even more than we thought.

So one week in September, we did a test project with a model from Berlin, and she decided to spend the night at a hotel close by to our shooting location. As I am quite the planner, I wanted to check out how far she’d have to travel to our shooting spot - and discovered that the hotel she chose was part of a bigger complex of offices, creative spaces and studio spaces. Right around the corner of our shooting location, who would have thought! Luckily, they still had one last space open - which is now our Light And Day Studio space.

Located on the third floor with wonderfully even natural light through a big window front overlooking the forest, we fell in love with the possibilities of that place immediately. But: it was still an office space with depressing carpet and 90s furniture spread all across the room. Time to make it into to the colorful creative space we imagined!

We started with completely redoing the floors and decided to go for light, wooden panels for an airy feel. Also a minty green corner was painted to give the room some structure and divide the shoot and styling areas. To this day, we are still aranging furniture, deciding how we can use the space better and improving our studio space.

One idea we love to this day is our backdrop wall - all of our paper backdrops are displayed on the wall, which serves as a clever use of space as well an art display. Clients can easily choose the colors and see if they match the prepared outfits, products or concepts. Also we love, that you get that colorful feeling right when entering the studio.

Often it is quite handy, that there is a hotel as well as a caterer right around the corner from our studio - so we always have lovely food spreads at our shoots. Also our models, art directors or stylists can sleep in the park’s hotel and walk 2 minutes to the studio in the morning.

If you book a shoot with us in our studio, the studio price is included at a reduced rate. We have lots of different props, backdrops and all of our lighting equipment to create the best results possible. Get in touch and we’ll chat about your vision!
